The Unique 'Everlasting Cool' Mystique Of The Elusive Kathy Ingraham
As a session singer in New York City, millions have heard her voice on TV commercials and movie themes. She prefers singing behind the glass fortress of a recording studio, the happy place for this very private person. Getting her to talk about herself or credits and accomplishments in the past is nearly impossible. When asked, she quotes Alice In Wonderland “It’s no use going back to yesterday because I was a different person then.” What we do know is that she grew up in a seacoast town in Maine. She treasures her friends from her childhood there. She is a wife and a mother. When asked about her album Everlasting Cool she speaks admiringly about the musicians. To Kathy it is about the music. We also know that Everlasting Cool has been submitted to the GRAMMYS for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Here are a couple of quotes about the album.
“If you have a lovely mezzo-soprano voice, lots of chops, a feel for selling a song, a talent for storytelling, and some sense of why tradition is what it is, you end up with Kathy Ingraham. She is a treat to listen to… A very compelling performance by all involved”. —Richard J Salvucci, All About Jazz

SJFS 2009 recapMay 22, 2009
Posted by Mike C. in Jazz, Music, Personal, Travel.
add a commentAs I wrote in my previous post, I was in Milford and West Haven, Connecticut, last weekend for the seventh annual Smooth Jazz for Scholars concert. The concert is hosted by Jay Rowe and benefits the Milford Public Schools Music Department. Unlike last year’s recap, we will go far beyond what happened immediately before, during, and after the concert. I’m also including pictures I took hours before and after.
We begin at Exit 10 of I-295 (Cross Bronx Expwy. Extension): I-695 (Throgs Neck Expwy.), which links to I-95 North.
It was here where I decided to start taking pictures of the different exits I passed on the ride to the West Haven Hampton Inn. Some of the pictures were slanted because it was hard to take all good pictures from the back seat. Any originally slanted pictures have been fixed for this post. You won’t even know they were slanted. Here we go.

The spelling is different, but the street name – Delavan Ave. – makes me think of “Delevans” by Jeff Lorber (1982).WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) headquarters in Stamford:
