Its one of those times where my pile of to review books has got a bit teetering, so Im going to write a little bit about five books Ive read recently. And recently goes back several months in some of these cases. Theyre all books that I enjoyed to some extent, and some that were really brilliant but, yes, one of them is a completely inconsequential piece of fluff.

This was actually a gift from the author, for which many thanks. American history is incomplete without Black history. Our ancestors demanded America to be what it said it was – attempting to reinforce the ideas of democracy, life, and liberty to all. Even still, we are not there yet. In this new edition we’ve included more Black scholars, lawyers, reformers, and protesters who imagined that idea of life and liberty, despite seldom achieving it. We honor them here by living up to their fierce reputation of resistance, and by acknowledging the ambition their stories. Though they are no longer with us, we are indeed the continuation of their tales.
