KILGORE, TexasJohn Ogwyn, 56, a Living Church of God elder who was widely believed to be in line to succeed Roderick Meredith as presiding evangelist of the church, died here June 14th 2005.
Mr. Ogwyn, a presenter on the Tomorrows World telecast along with Dr. Meredith and Richard Ames, had suffered for months from recurring symptoms of a massive infection. The Journal reported in its March issue Mr. Ogwyns conducting of a press conference in Wisconsin shortly after the shooting deaths during a March 12 Sabbath service in Brookfield. Including his service in the Worldwide Church of God, Mr. Ogwyn had served in the ministry for 34 years.
Survivors include his wife, Genie, of Kilgore; sons Charles of Cabot, Ark., and David of Baton Rouge, La.; mother, Trudy Ogwyn, of Taylor, La.; brother, David, of Shreveport, La.; and two grandchildren. Dr. Meredith conducted Mr. Ogwyns funeral in Minden, La.

The Global Church of God (GCG) is a Sabbatarian church based in England.[1] It was founded in Glendora, CA in 1992 by Roderick C. Meredith.[2] Following the dissolution of most church operations in the United States, GCG's operations shifted to the United Kingdom and reestablished a presence in North America under new organizational identities.
History and background
[edit]Roderick C. Meredith had been a minister in the Worldwide Church of God (WCG) for 40 years. He established GCG in response to a number of major doctrinal shifts in WCG. GCG is one of the many Sabbatarian Churches of God to form after WCG's 1995 schism.
Herbert W. Armstrong had founded the WCG as a radio ministry (originally called the Radio Church of God) in 1934.[3] Over the next 50 years, the church developed an international presence through The Plain Truth magazine, The World Tomorrow radio and television programs, and three campuses of Ambassador College in the U.S. and England.
