Pathonpatham Noottandu (transl. Nineteenth century) is a 2022 Indian Malayalam-language periodaction film written and directed by Vinayan. Set in the 19th century Travancore, the story is based on the life of Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker, a warrior who fought against social injustices suffered by the lower caste.[1] The film stars Siju Wilson and Kayadu Lohar, with Anoop Menon, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sudev Nair, Vishnu Vinay, and Senthil Krishna in supporting roles.[2] The original score was composed by Santhosh Narayanan (in his Malayalam debut) and songs by M. Jayachandran.
Pathonpatham Noottandu was released in theatres on 8 September 2022. The film won three Kerala State Film Awards.
Plot
[edit]A young Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker from Arattupuzha arrives at the English East India Company headquarters at Travancore to ask a lord for a permit to export cardamom. There he witnesses a brutal fight match between slaves conducted by British Raj officers along with some nobles and other guests. When the winner is coerced by the officers to kill the loser by bludgeoning, Chekavar interferes and saves him, but a fight breaks out. Chekavar manages to escape without getting shot.

Kaaviya Thalaivan (transl. Epic Hero) is a 2014 Indian Tamil-language historical drama film written and directed by Vasanthabalan and produced by S. Sashikanth and Varun Manian under their production companies YNOT Studios and Radiance Media Group. It stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Siddharth in the lead roles along with Vedhika, Anaika Soti, Nassar, Thambi Ramaiah, Ponvannan, Mansoor Ali Khan and others appear in supporting roles. Music composed by A. R. Rahman. Set in the early 20th century, the film is about the lives of two theatre artistes and the competition that exists between them in a small drama troupe.[3]
The project was announced by YNOT Studios in September 2012, and principal photography of the film was commenced on early June 2013. The soundtrack and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman; while cinematography was handled by Nirav Shah and editing by Praveen K. L. The costume designs were done by Perumal Selvam and Niranjani Ahathian, and Pattanam Rasheed was the make up artist.[4]
