It is with a profound sense of loss that we mourn the passing of Essy Baniassad, a professor and former Chairman of the Department of Architecture, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). At the time of his passing, Essy was an external examiner of the BAAS undergraduate programme here at HKU Department of Architecture. Beyond that, he was a frequent guest in reviews and lectures. He was also a mentor to many students and teachers in the Department. His generous spirit extended to our school, helping to shape and guide many of us here. This informal engagement allowed us to think of him as a true friend to the Department in the spirit of shared passion for education and architecture. We could count on his sincerity, his kind advice and boundless optimism. We would like to remember him with gratitude and wonder.
